At Meadow View Academy, Religious Education has a significant role for the development of our pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It promotes respect and open-mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs and encourages pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection. The principal aim of RE is to engage pupils in an inquiry approach where they can develop an understanding and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principal religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community.
The Religious Education curriculum at Meadow View Academy is designed so that each child, who experiences it, will develop an awareness and understanding of the beliefs and cultures within and beyond their community and equip them with essential skills that will support their inquiry and response to significant questions posed by religion and worldviews.
Rigorous, robust and carefully sequenced teaching will enhance a carefully constructed curriculum that is inclusive and ambitious for all, regardless of ability or need. As a result, pupils leave Meadow View ready to transition to the next stage in their educational career.
It is crucial that our children are provided with subject specific knowledge regarding a variety of religions so that they have a strong foundation of key concepts, beliefs, practices and vocabulary associated with each.
There are no presumptions made as to the religious backgrounds, beliefs and values of the children and the staff. We value the religious background of all members of the school community and hope that this will encourage individuals to share their own experiences with others freely. All religions and their communities are treated with equal respect and sensitivity. Endeavouring to promote a positive attitude toward people, respecting their right to hold different beliefs from their own.

Curriculum Overview
Right of withdrawal
Religious Education (RE) is an important part of our curriculum. It provides pupils with opportunities to learn about a range of religious and non-religious worldviews, develop their understanding of different beliefs and practices, and consider questions about meaning, values and human experience.
Parents and carers have a legal right to request that their child is withdrawn from all or part of Religious Education. This right also applies to religious worship or collective worship, which is subject to separate legal provisions.
If you are considering withdrawing your child from RE, we encourage you to contact the Headteacher to discuss your request. This will provide an opportunity to explain the aims and content of the RE curriculum and to discuss the arrangements that would be made for your child if they are withdrawn.
Where a pupil is withdrawn from RE, the responsibility for providing religious education outside the school's RE provision rests with the parent or carer.
