RE

At Meadow View Academy, Religious Education has a significant role for the development of our pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It promotes respect and open-mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs and encourages pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection. The principal aim of RE is to engage pupils in an inquiry approach where they can develop an understanding and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principal religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community.
The Religious Education curriculum at Meadow View Academy is designed so that each child, who experiences it, will develop an awareness and understanding of the beliefs and cultures within and beyond their community and equip them with essential skills that will support their inquiry and response to significant questions posed by religion and worldviews.
Rigorous, robust and carefully sequenced teaching will enhance a carefully constructed curriculum that is inclusive and ambitious for all, regardless of ability or need. As a result, pupils leave Meadow View ready to transition to the next stage in their educational career.
It is crucial that our children are provided with subject specific knowledge regarding a variety of religions so that they have a strong foundation of key concepts, beliefs, practices and vocabulary associated with each.
There are no presumptions made as to the religious backgrounds, beliefs and values of the children and the staff. We value the religious background of all members of the school community and hope that this will encourage individuals to share their own experiences with others freely. All religions and their communities are treated with equal respect and sensitivity. Endeavouring to promote a positive attitude toward people, respecting their right to hold different beliefs from their own.

Curriculum Overview
Right of withdrawal
This was first granted in 1944 when RE was actually religious instruction and carried with it connotations of induction into the Christian faith. RE is very different now – open, broad, exploring a range of religious and non-religious worldviews. However, in the UK, parents still have the right to withdraw their children from RE lessons and assemblies on the grounds that they wish to provide their own religious education. (School Standards and Framework Act 1998 S71 (3). This will be the parents’ responsibility. However, it is good practice to talk to parents to ensure that they understand the aims and value of RE before honouring this right.
If you want to withdraw your child from RE lessons and/or assemblies we would encourage you to contact the Headteacher to discuss the matter and to negotiate alternative arrangements.
Recent celebrations
'On Friday 23rd October, we celebrated Harvest at our Harvest Festival assembly. We wish to thank all our families for their generous donations and we are pleased to share that your contributions will be sent to the Elim Church Foodbank and distributed to those in need within our local community. During the assembly, the theme of sharing was beautifully revisited, reminding us to thank God for the food we have and to embrace an attitude of gratitude. A special thanks to our marvellous House Captains, who scripted and led the assembly, inspiring us all to come together for this important cause. Your support truly makes a difference!'
